We continually welcome new leadership into the governance structures of our congregations and each time we are all changed. Ongoing and renewing Board Development keeps us relevant, engaged, and moving forward.
The Ministry and Congregational Support Team of Edmonton Presbytery were asked to provide leadership for Board Development Workshops. After much success in the Winter and Spring we are pleased to announce that we are still able to offer such workshops at no cost to our pastoral charges in the months of September and November 2018. (not including holiday weekends).
We are so pleased that Rev. Dr. George Rodgers has agreed to lead these workshops. George is a retired ordained United Church Minister who served pastoral charges in Saskatchewan and Alberta and Northwest Conferences. His studies took him from St. Andrews Theological College, to Chicago Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from St. Stephen’s College. George served on the Senior Leadership Team for the United Church of Canada as the Executive Secretary for Alberta and Northwest Conference for nine years. George has a passion for leadership development and is a scholar of progressive theology.
Each workshop is based on a four-hour timeline plus time for lunch.
Session One: Your church
The Church in today’s world: new ways of being church needed
Description, Strengths, Successes, Challenges of your congregation
Session Two: Your mission (“as a fire exists by burning…”)
What is mission?
Why are you here? What attracts people to your church? Relation to the community!
Session Three: Your Board/Council (Manual)
Purpose? Structure? Decision-making patterns? Meeting Format and Content?
How your board relates to and supports your mission?
Session Four: Strategies
How prepare, plan, achieve?
The individual sessions involve input from the presenter, questions for the participants, and small group discussions. Further details will be developed and adapted to each local session. Information from conversation with key individuals in your Board/Council before each workshop would be required.
We anticipate these workshops will prove to be very popular so we encourage you to book your date as early as possible by calling or emailing the Edmonton Presbytery Office:
