Boundaries Commission Final Report Is LiveAfter considering motions from governing bodies across the country, the Boundaries Commission released its final report on February 27.
The 16 regional councils detailed in this report will replace presbyteries and Conferences on January 1, 2019, if the 43rd General Council passes Remit 1: Three Council Model in July.
Camps, campus ministries, and outreach and community ministries can now also be found in each of the regional council maps.
The Indigenous Church, at their request, will continue to engage in a distinct process to decide their relationships within the new church structure. More information will be shared when it’s available.
Please note: People have been letting us know about corrections that need to be made. We are gathering all of these and intend to provide final versions of the maps, the church locator, and lists of the makeup of each regional council at the end of March.
Remit 6 Voting ResultsRemit 6: One Order of Ministry was not approved by a majority of the 85 voting presbyteries and 2,137 voting pastoral charges of The United Church of Canada. (The original announcement incorrectly said 86 presbyteries and 2,152 pastoral charges.)
As a result, our Order of Ministry continues to embrace both diaconal ministry and ordained ministry. In 2018 presbyteries will continue to recognize designated lay ministry applicants and designated lay ministers.
The 42nd General Council (motion GC42 2015-070) approved “the development and implementation of a seven-phase Pathway toward Recognition as a Designated Lay Minister with the purpose to call forth, identify, accompany, equip, assess, authorize, and celebrate those persons whom God calls to and endows for service as Recognized Designated Lay Ministers, offering leadership in Christ’s diverse ministries and contributing to God’s mission in creation.”
Please watch for further communications in 2018 related to the Pathway toward Recognition as a Designated Lay Minister, the Office of Vocation, and the candidacy pathway.
Caretakers of Our Indigenous Circle: Calls to the ChurchThese calls to action referred to in the Boundaries Commission report are now available on the United Church website in English (see Downloads at bottom). A French translation is also underway.
